DIY Dried Citrus

I moved out here to Port Hope about a year ago, in the middle of the pandemic. Everything was closed, so I had to get a little creative for our first holiday in this new home. I decided to slow it down, like really slow it down and go all natural!!

Greenery is so easy to find and there are so many options, but to add some colour I decided to make dried citrus! It’s so easy to make, it leaves your home smelling yummy—and once the season’s over, I can compost them!

For this you’ll need a knife, at least a dozen oranges, a few baking trays and tea towels or reusable dish clothes.

Pre heat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius. Cut the oranges into ½ inch thick circles. Place them on the tea towel, and using a second tea towel dab away the excess juice.

Once the oven is ready, let the oranges dry in the oven for 3 hours. Yes—you read that right, 3 hours-- we are really slowing it down here folks!

My only tip is to make sure you’re checking in on the citrus every 30 minutes, if your slices are thinner, they will be ready much sooner!

Once they're dried in the oven, let them cool on a rack completely. Then you can add it to garlands on your mantle or staircase, decorate your homemade presents-- the possibilities are endless!
